Welcome to NordicCanoe
When some centuries ago the wooden canoes cruised on the waterways of Alaska and Canada, the users were hardly aware at that time of the beauty and aesthetics of their boats. What was more important to the traders, trappers and not at least the gold diggers along the Yukon River was the safe and fast transport of their merchandise, equipment and themselves over the only “streets” in the wilderness: the rivers.

The same applies to the 4000 years old kayaks of the Inuit. A prerequisite
for the boats was not their beauty but the fastness, manoeuvrability and
seaworthiness required for seal hunting. At the end of the 17th century
three Inuit arrived with their kayaks at the west coast of Scotland. This is
a distance of much more than 1300 miles over the open Atlantic.

Winter time is restoration time. NordicCanoe makes you an offer for the repair of your boat.

But why were these boats already characterised in those days by beauty and aesthetics although
nobody attached great importance to these features? The question is
answered by the nature. In order to create a boat with good cruising properties, it must practically
“become one” with its element. Now let us have a look at the aesthetics of a wild river or a rough
sea, the movement of a wave or the merging into the spray. Consequently, a good boat must
make use of the same aesthetic forms.
